Living in the Cook Islands (South Pacific), I work in machine-sewn lace techniques using Paper Mulberry bark cloth and Lemon Hibiscus bark fibres in combination with thread and fabric. “Home” was made as part of my studies towards a MA in Art and Design in September 2008. It is 680 mm X 390 mm X 300 mm in size, made of tapa (bark cloth), kiriau (bark fibre), thread, soluble stabilizer and wire.
I started to explore and work with tapa in 1989. I like to combine local materials such as fine barks and fibres with materials and techniques from my German/European background to express a position between two worlds. After finishing my studies I hope to be able to exhibit my works overseas.
