This is a black, green and gold (the national colors of Jamaica) crocheted skirt with an irish crocheted butterfly detail.
I learned to crochet from a children's book called "Look I Can Make Things!" and I have been crocheting for 13 years. I am inspired by Jamaica and old style crochet techniques and styles. My favorite designer of all time is Anne Orr, a prolific crochet designer of the early 20th century.
I totally agree with Mr. Boontje's statement that "contemporary does not forsake tradition." This is why I will make my 21st century items with an embellishment or a technique from long before - in acknowledgement and gratitude to all the designers and neeleworkers who went before.
